A quick and easy idea for all purple handmade birthday cards!
I have a little story about why I made a stack of these purple birthday card.
So, do you have those colors of card stock sitting in your stash that you just don't use much? Not because you don't like them, they just aren't your go-to colors? That's what Highland Heather is for me. But recently in Stamping Family, Debbie has been using this color all the time!
She inspired me to dust off my Highland Heather ink and card stock and put them to use. And then my neighbor got all excited when she saw this sweet and simple card because she needed some all purple cards with kites on them to send out to the girls in her family this year.
Win/win, right?
I went back to my Kite Delight stamp set. It's a set I wasn't completely sold on how many times I would use it but I loved it from the beginning. And I have used it and used it and used it! Like on this card.
With Highland Heather on the brain, I went to town!
In this project there is a sneak peek die cut by the way, but we will get to that in a bit. Let me show you the card first…
The Project
Here it is in all it's Highland Heather glory!
It's a quick card to make and you only need a few supplies to make it. The catch is this… the Kite Delight stamp set is retiring and the die (did you spot it yet?) isn't coming out until May 3rd. It will be very popular in case you are wondering – I wouldn't wait to get it!
So you will want to place one order NOW to get the retiring set plus any of the other things on the retiring list. Don't forget to check out the Clearance Rack, too. And then you will want to place an order when you can get all the new goodies!
Onto that die… It's a polka dot cover plate die!!! OMGosh, I LOVE IT!!
If you aren't familiar with cover plate dies, no worries, they are easy! They are one giant die that will cover your entire card front if you want. They will come in a variety of patterns, my heart just can't resist a good polka dot!
Now you might be looking back up at the project and wondering where the die is used, you might be thinking it was an embossing folder.
But nope, when used as originally intended, all those dots would be cut out. But I used the Sizzix Silicone Mat that turns any die into an embossing image! I often forget about these plates! BUT with them, it's like getting twice the value of your dies.
After all that, it's just a simple card you can make in minutes. Stamp your kite and kite tails, color, & cut them out. Then you can stamp your sentiment on another piece of white card stock and trim it down.
I used a bigger piece of white to “hold” my kite, but to add more visual interest, I trimmed a 1/4″ piece off the bottom and split the white. I love the way that looks!
All that's left for you to do is order your supplies!
The Supplies
Remember that the cover plate die isn't available yet, so I can't list it yet. But the rest of the Stampin' Up! supplies are listed below. Simply click on an image to order. And keep in mind that host code below = free tutorials!
