Today I'm sharing a handmade Father's Day card idea, sound good?
But more than just share how to make it, I want to share with you several tips and tricks when it come to making cards like this.
For me, what I love, love, love most of all on this card is the metallic touches. I don't know how well you can see them on the image or in the video. My friends in real life, it's awesome!

I really love the tool set and the overalls from Brass and Bliss, and I knew they would be amazing together – and with the fun metallic touches and those little pops of red, it all comes together! And don't worry, I have a supply list for you below ❤️
What Makes This Handmade Father's Day Card Come Together
I love a good masculine card, they are simply fun to make! I think I like them because it's all about the textures and colors. It's not so much about the “stuff”, it's about adding elements in a slightly different way.
For example on this card, what really pops is:
- Metal accents
- Red handles on the tools matching the red on the sentiment
- The adorable overalls
For the metallic accents, there are several supplies you can use. I went with a good ol' fashion Sharpie marker and colored the die cut pieces. That's how I did it the second time I made it.
The first time I did it, I was happier with the results – I colored a square completely with the silver Sharpie, then I die cut out the pieces. For my multi-focal lenses, that was WAY easier. I thought I was wasting marker, but you waste more time doing it the second way.
You could also die cut silver foil. I know I have some, but I couldn't find it right away.
And for those of you that want to go the extra mile, press the die cut pieces into your VersaMark ink pad and heat emboss it with silver embossing powder.
Other Ways to Use This Handmade Father's Day Card
So we can clearly see this card is made for Father's Day, but with a few slight changes, we can do so much more with it!
- Have a neighbor that is helpful? Make them this card and change the sentiment to “thank you”.
- Change the sentiment to “happy birthday” and give it to any guy that likes to be handy.
- Make a set of these cards as a gift for someone that needs to send masculine cards. Swap out the colors on the tool handles and the sentiment for a completely different look on each card.
- For any graduates that are going into trades, use a graduation sentiment and slide some cash right into that pocket!
AND Other Ways to Use This Handmade Father's Day Card – Girl It Up!
Us girls are handy too, so don't lock into this card idea as just being for the menfolk.
- Cut the overalls from some cute floral paper!
- Bedazzle the pockets – we all remember that trend, right?
- Change the metallics to rose gold for a fun shimmer look.
- Have flowers coming out of the pocket.

Tips and Solutions With this Handmade Father's Day Card
I love having a Quickie Glue Pen or a super fine tip glue to assemble the “hardware” on this card. Also having a teflon sheet so nothing sticks to your surface is another winner. So I included them in the supply list.
Make sure you have a great quality die cutting machine. I thought mine was good until I got a new Big Shot from Sizzix, OMGosh – what a difference!!!
AND, there are enough tools in this die set that you can easily make two cards from one die cutting of the tools.
Trust me, when you get the overall dies, get the tools, it's just perfect!
