Handmade Card Designs: Making a Thank You Card
This handmade card was designed for my neighbor – I needed to be making her a thank you card today. This past weekend I needed to be out of town for work, and she was more than happy to take in my kiddo for the weekend.
Between pizza and going to the movies, Emily had a great time spending time with our neighbor's family!
So this card is for Amy and Bruce – more for Amy, cuz Bruce won't care about the card :).
And Amy is edgy/trendy kinda lady, not a flower and lace person. She has such a bright personality. And she always has “sprinkles” of black in her wardrobe. Just little hints.
So I needed bright/edgy/bits of black all in one card. Was I up for the challenge? Not before my second cup of coffee – yesterday's travel took a toll on me!
I started the card with picking out my patterned paper. Initially I just had black and white patterned paper. But it was too much.
And don't worry, the supplies are all listed at the bottom of this post!
I dug around and found a pack of paper I hadn't used in forever, it's the Moonlight paper.
See, it doesn't have black in it, but the dark purple could almost be black. So it gave that hint of black I was looking for.
Then it was on to the sentiment. I wanted a BIG thank you. And I found in the Another Thank You set.
But it wasn't enough. Then I remembered the Simply Wonderful set has the “you're the best” sentiment. Pairing those together was perfect!

The card needed a bit of ‘roughing up' or texture to it. And that was a bit of a challenge when working with such a busy pattern on that paper. I tried several ways of changing up the Sahara Sand layer. And that didn't work.
So I switched my focus to the sentiment layer. Some light splatter stamping did the trick.
BUT…
I used the Stamping Off technique on those yellow splatters. That means that I inked up the stamp, stamped first on scratch paper, then stamped on my sentiment layer without re-inking the stamp again.
So the pattern of that is:
1. Ink up the stamp.
2. Stamp on scratch paper.
3. Stamp on card stock.
4. Repeat.
I then decided I needed an image to go with our fabulous word pairings. I tried a heart, a butterfly, and those both looked terrible. I grabbed this bolder image flower and really liked it. A quick add of a bow in the middle, and this card was almost done.

I really wanted to add that black and white patterned paper back into the card. I think it still has a place on this card.
It became a banner under the second sentiment. Cute, right?
Then onto the inside…
I went with the Stamping Off technique again for the inside and covered a piece of Whisper White with more splatters in Crushed Curry ink, same as the front.
After assembling it all, the only thing left to do it write in it and walk it down to her!
