Using Dark Over Light Ink for Colors that POP!

Today I want to share with you a quick tip for using dark over light ink creates colors that pop, brightening up any project without a lot of time or fuss.  First, let’s check out this sweet card:

Dark Ink On Light for Colors that POP!

Using dark over light ink is an easy way to create the illusion of layers without having to stamp, cut and add them physically.  While this stamp set was made for this sort of technique, you can see how using the darker green over the lighter green on the leaves added both detail and dimension and the darker center on the flowers added a lot of pop to their lighter backgrounds.

Keep in mind that depending on just how dark that second “layer” of ink is will determine whether or not the background color will show through.  Using highly saturated, bold colors will ensure that their original shade stays close to true, but even if the lighter color shows through, you will still end up with a great contrast of shade and hue.

I echoed this dark over light approach to color by adding the greeting in a darker color over my lighter card front.  I love how cheery this card came out and I am telling you, it was stinkin’ fast and fun to put together.  Here’s what I used:

So next time you want to add some real POP to a card, try using dark over light ink for some dimension and interest – it’s easy, fast and economical!
