Stampin Up Christmas Traditions Punch Box

One of the things I was most excited about from the Holiday catalog was the Stampin Up Christmas Traditions Punch Box.

This box is stinking adorable, AND it comes with a stamp set, a punch, two ink spots and an acrylic block.  Many of you weren't so sure about it because you have blocks and you have ink spots and so really you would be paying $45 for a stamp set and punch.

The Story

So as I said above, it is one I was most excited about and I have used it a lot – but it was to make things in a hurry, I made a bunch of tags and cards and mailed them out… and never took pictures… so I never shared them…

Then on Monday I was stamping and grabbed it to use to make a little gift box for a gift exchange Emily is doing at school.  And this time I took pictures!!!  YAY!

The Supplies

This is what I used to create the three projects below.  I didn't list ink as the Real Red ink spot comes in the Stampin Up Christmas Traditions Punch Box!

The Dimensions

• Whisper White: 4″ x 5-1/4″; 2″ x 6″; 1-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ (2)
• Real Red:  2-1/2″ x 3-1/2″
• Basic Black: 1/2″ x 2-1/4″ (3)

The Stamping

I inked up the fantabulous Buffalo Check background stamp in Real Red ink and stamped it on a piece of Whisper White 4″ x 5-1/4″.  You can use the sizes we will be cutting it down to if you want to save a smidge of paper, but I always have a stack of this size cut in Whisper White so it's easy just to grab one of them.

After you stamp it, take a ruler and your Basic Black marker and draw lines in between your checks(?), your plaid(?), your square(?) – as I am typing this I am realizing I have no idea what to call that area.  So let's try again – draw a line through your white spaces(?) I don't know that that is any better.  They say a picture is worth 1,000 words, and hopefully the one below gives you the one word I can't seem to find today.

Then we get to do our sentiments.  Pick 3 from your set of 6 stamps and to save time I slapped them all on one block, inked them all up at once, and stamped all at once.

The Punching

Remember that I said the Stampin Up Christmas Traditions Punch Box comes with a punch?  Here is when we will use it…

The Cutting & Scoring for the Matchbox

I followed my own Matchbox Template I shared over a year ago on my blog and YouTube channel.  You can grab the template and watch the video here, just remember we are slightly modifying it.

We are modifying it because by doing our box in Real Red card stock, and our wrapper section with the piece we stamped in Buffalo Check.

So you will want to cut your Buffalo check piece to a finished piece that is 2-1/2″ x 4-1/2″.  Cut first at 2-1/2″ so that you have a long strip of 1-1/2″ remaining – we will use this for the tags later.

Follow the video instructions to make your box, your wrapper and assembly of these.

Then wrap a strip of the stunning glittery black ribbon around it and tie it in a double knot.  Create banners on each end of one of your Basic Black strips.  Add one of your punched pieces on top of your black banner and then use a Dimensional to place it onto your matchbox.

The Tags

You should have a long strip of stamped Buffalo Check remaining and so you want to cut this down two pieces that are each 1-1/4″ x 2″.

Grab your Whisper White strips that are 1-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ and score them at 2-1/4″.  Add your Buffalo Check pieces to the middle of your front. Create banners on each end of one of your Basic Black strips and attach them across the middle.  Use a Dimensional to attach your punched pieces.  Punch a hole in the top and tie your ribbon through the holes.

So when you are done you have these fun tags and adorable matchbox!
