I've recently gotten my hands on some fun Sizzix Embossing Folders and couldn't wait to use them in a way that excited me – maybe not the way most creatives would use it.
The two folders I decided to mix together are the Typewriter and the Foundry folders. Both of these are Tim Holtz designs.
When I think of Tim Holtz, I think of distressed looks, grunge, ink all over my fingers for days, lots of stencils, journals, layers on layers of ink and more.
And if you've followed me for a hot second, you know that's not my lane of creativity!
I'll never forget the first time that I met Tim Holtz and he was showing me some of his new products. The doors had just opened and this was not an open trade show, so even if you can't imagine it, he wasn't swarmed and you could talk with him 1 on 1.
He showed me the most distressed, most grunge like project and it was stunning to see him create it. Then he asked me if I wanted to try, and I politely declined. I love to see that type of artistry in action, I totally appreciate it.
When I got the Typewriter embossing folder, a Tim Holtz-grunge-loving friend of mine was over and I asked her what colors came to mind looking at it. Her first response was brown. And I love her for that.
She asked me the same question, I said, “Hot pink!” The look of horror and astonishment was priceless! She said, “You can use Timmy's (that her nickname for him) folders like that!”
And then we laughed – all was good.
But I think a lot of times we think about creative products staying in their own creative lane – and then we keep them there, intentionally or unintentionally.
Today's Card
Today's a a bright color mix of hot pink and a turquoise, a smidge of black – clean and simple – and cute!
As I said above, I used two different embossing folders to create this card, one on each color of cardstock.
And the “fontiment” (Stamping Family slang for font and sentiment) is one of my favorites!

What I love, love, love about these two folders is the depth of embossing you get with each. Such a deep impression with such an amazing outcome!
But aren't these textures stunning? And that “fontiment”?!?!

I love how this card comes together. It doesn't take a lot of time or a crazy amount of supplies – which is how I love to craft!
And these embossing folders are BIG! They are 6″ x 8-1/2″ – so you can emboss several pieces at one time depending on the size of your card stock.
I wasn't sure how I felt about this size of folder but now I wish they were all this size! Especially if you like creating more than cards with your cardstock.
The Supplies

On the supply list, I listed the Big Shot and the Sidekick – both are machines from Sizzix. The Sidekick Starter Kit contains the dies that I used for the card above. You won't be able to fit the Typewriter or Foundry embossing folders in the Sidekick machine. But that's why they are both listed ❤️
OH! The listing for the Happy Everything Sentiments stamp set seems a bit odd to me. In the stamp set, the words are separated more than they are in the graphic. For example, the middle sentiment that says “happy birthday and many more”, that's 3 different stamps. So that makes this set even more versatile!
I was initially confused by it, so I wanted to be sure to share that with you. You can see another card I made with that sentiment here.
And you can see how I used the Foundry folder here.
What do you think?
I love the mixed look of them with the bright colors, and I LOVE that sentiment set too!
But I want to know what you think about these color choices in these embossing folders? Share away in the comments below, my stamping friends!
