Mixing Happy Happenings and Garden in Bloom From Stampin' Up!

Today we are mixing Happy Happenings and Garden in Bloom from Stampin' Up!  These are two of my favorite new stamp sets in the new Stampin' Up! catalog and I couldn't wait to use them together.

The first thing for me was to pick out my colors.  I wanted to stretch a bit out of my comfort zone and the newest Color Inspiration from Stamping Family helped me out with that for sure.  I didn't know how this card would come together with these colors, but I like it.  If you are not a member of Stamping Family, click here to check it out.  There are new inspirations every week posted to the site – aweeeeesommmme!

Then it was time to make the decision with Garden in Bloom.  It is a two step stamp set, which means you use two images to get one look.  But I decided to go with just the outline stamps from Garden in Bloom.  That's a great way to get more value from your stamps!  Check out this set:

And then it was time to pick the sentiment for this.  I went with Happy Happenings from Stampin' Up!  I like how it is a two part set – again, you can use just one stamp or both, and this time I went with both.  Normally, I think I would put the “Happy Birthday” on the front of the card and the rest of the sentiment on the inside, but for some reason decided to do it backwards.

But look at all the options with this stamp set:

Then it was time to add some texture.  I won't hide it, I will own it…

I am addicted to the Brick Wall embossing folder.  There, I said it.  I totally heart this dang thing.  I seem to be using it on everything!  After dry embossing the Whisper White on my card front, I still wanted more texture.

So I grabbed my Cherry Cobbler Striped Grosgrain ribbon.  Initially I was planning on adding a bow or a knot with the same ribbon, but it was too much.  So a simple bow tied using White Baker's Twine added just enough to gather it.

The sentiment was stamped in Pumpkin Pie (a color I usually just use in the fall) and then layered onto a bigger Cherry Cobbler circle.  And then it was time to layer and assemble.

For the inside of the card, I went with a 1/2″ strip of Whisper White and since the Pumpkin Pie ink pad was still open, it became the obvious choice for the ink color for the “Happy Birthday”.  That was then layered onto a strip of Cherry Cobbler and added to the inside of the card.

Never in a million years would I have picked this color combination in the summer.  NEVER!  But I find myself in color ruts and am so grateful for this week's Stamping Family Color Inspiration!  (I can't wait to see what the other members have created with these colors!)
