Making Handmade Friendship Cards

There is nothing like making handmade friendship cards, it’s just good for the soul!  Today’s card idea is going to help you do just that.

This bright and cute card is so much fun to make, you will love this layout and want to use it over and over again – especially when you see just how it comes together.

There is something so refreshing about making cards.  It’s so good for the soul, and that gift goes from you through the impersonal post office and out the other side to brighten the day of someone else.  Really, there is nothing like it!

You know those days when you are tired to the bone, you have had more than one thing come along to knock you down, and you just might have eaten more out of the peanut butter jar than you care to admit?  THOSE are the days you might feel the least likely to make a card.  But those are the very days when I recommend you put on your comfy jammies, head to your craft stash, and put energy into making something.  Those will be the nights that you sleep the best.  It changes the dynamic of your entire day!

Okay, coming down off the soap box…

The first thing that really stands out on this card is the cute mushroom.  This comes from the Snail Mail stamp set and has a coordinating die set, which is just icing on the cake!  It’s like the clouds part and the bird of happiness flies directly into my stamp room when I see coordinating dies!!

This cute mushroom is perfect for all kinds of cards, but I think the whimsy and brightness of it screams out to be used on a friendship card.  

When I use images that need to be colored and also die cut, I stamp, die cut and THEN color.  The reason is that I am more likely to mess up the die cutting than I am to mess up the coloring.  So I don’t want to do all my coloring and then mess it up running it through my die cutting machine.  

Speaking of dies, I would be out of my mind to not share this die set with you.  It has several hidden gems, like the postage style stitched rectangle that I used on this card.  It’s much more than just the outline of the stamps!

While I think the overall stamp set is cute, I didn’t buy it for the snails.  I bought it for the possibilities that come in addition to the snail 🙂

Choose the colors you want for your mushrooms and just go to town.  I used my Stampin’ Blends to color in mine, you can watercolor, use regular markers, whatever you choose.  Then choose three of those colors and stamp your “hello” three times.  

What really pulls this card together though are two elements:

1. that adorable stitched border from the Stitched With Whimsy dies
2. SCRAPS of patterned paper and black.  Those came from my scrap bin for real!  Dig around in your scraps to find paper that coordinates with your colored in mushroom. 

Having the two pieces really adds a great balance to your card.  AND you get to use up scraps!

And let’s pause for just a minute to really embrace the wondermous stitched whimsy on this card.  That’s just too cute for words!  I love these so much.
