Paper Craft Idea: Making a Handmade Birthday Card
Welcome to this paper craft idea that is all about making a handmade birthday card.
It's Monday, and that means polka dots! I love them, I can't get enough of them, and it worked perfect for my card today to have them!
But today, I used polka dot paper instead of white card stock to hold my sentiment. I stamped my sentiment right onto that polka dot paper using the Big Day stamp set from Stampin' Up!
Then it was time to stamp the cake. This cake is a cute cake with that fun circle trim on the icing. It was colored using my Blendabilities. And I didn't focus on blending today. I used just one shade of each color so that I did not have marker lines.
The Sweet Taffy paper from Stampin' Up! provided the stripes and the polka dots.
Years ago I said goodbye to buying individual sheets of patterned paper. I like to use patterns together, and trying to match them up while standing in the aisle of a florescent lighted craft store is like trying to nail jello to the wall. No. Thank. You.
From start to finish, this card took me less than 15 minutes. From idea to pulling supplies, from stamping to coloring, from punching to adhering, it was done! Much less time that going to buy one. (Notice I did not say cheaper!)
But if considering costs, remember that the Big Day stamp set is part of the Sale-a-Bration promotion with Stampin' Up! Which means with every $50 in merchandise you order, you can pick out a free stamp set or other accessory to go with it!
And this Big Day one is my fave! Check it out:
Put all of these components together and look at what you have:
Ok, so the only part we haven't talked about is the inside of the card. I went simple. Crazy simple would be leaving it completely blank. Mildly simple would be just adding card stock. Simple is adding a stamp and a strip of the same patterned paper that was still sitting out on my counter top.
Below is a list of supplies used to create this handmade birthday card.

I purchased this stamp in photopolymer. I CANNOT get it to stamp completely. I have used blocks, stamping pads and piercing mats underneath. I have lightly sanded the stamp as well. Can you help? I am so very frustrated. I’ve not had this problem with other photopolymer stamps.
Hi Patricia, This set is not available in photopolymer. Is this the same set?
I’ve this happy card. I just ordered this set. I can’t wait! Thanks for the inspiration.
Vey pretty. I love that you stamped on DSP! Great card to CASE.
I prefer handmade cards over the Ready-made ones Because it shoes the level of dedication and love you want to put in the gift an the wishes you wish to convey through it. The warmth of that Sympathetic feeling which the other one will get from the handmade card is just amazing.
