Today is Veteran's Day in the USA.

(No, this is not a political post at all!)

Regardless of which way you voted this week, the big picture is that you voted.  That because of brave men and women that served, you have the ability to vote, the ability to live in a great nation, and I personally love our veterans.

While working for EMS as a paramedic both in Austin, TX, and in Lubbock, TX – my favorite group of patients by far was our veterans.  Not only did working on an ambulance give me to opportunity to thank each and every one of them for his or her service to our country, it also gave me the opportunity to care for them in their time of need.

The stories they shared with me were funny, sad, filled of joy, filled of sorrow – some all at the same time.

When I met them, many were surrounded by family caring for them as they were sick or injured, and many were completely alone.  Many have gone on to thrive in their lives, and many have not.  They are all very, very special individuals.

Regardless of whatever kind of day you are having today, when you see a veteran, please stop what you are doing and thank them for their service.

If you are a veteran reading this, please know that my family is so very appreciative of your service to our country!
