Learn how to add texture to cardstock for instant visual interest with almost no extra work!

Today's project is all about how to add texture to cardstock using the item that I just cannot ever resist – embossing folders! I don't think there are many embossing folders I have met that I haven't wanted. I love them because they are so incredibly easy to use and they add so much.

I used to LOVE watching Emeril on the Food Network – as he cooked he regularly said that he wished we all had smell-o-vision so that as we were at home we could smell all the wonderful scents that his olive oil laden dishes produced. Likewise, I wish we had touch-o-vision (G rated of course – this is a card making blog afterall!)  But I wish you could touch this card and feel all the textures this card has!

This card gets extra visual texture from cut out elements layered with Stampin' Dimensionals and rough coloring – a favorite technique I created while working on projects in Stamping Family – plus, of course, the physical texture created by the embossing folders.  All of that on this one card, let me share it with you and then we will talk about what it has and what it doesn't have. (I am very sad that all the deliciousness of this card isn't as evident in this photo – it's the curse of lighting on white cardstock!)

Adorbs, right?  I love this card so much!  What is has is texture upon texture upon texture!  You have dry embossed texture on the layer above your card base.  Texture from that stitched scalloped rectangle die.  Texture from the brick embossed layer and visual texture with the rough coloring.

PRO TIP: Adding all the different elements in one color – in this case white – with a few pops of bold color only adds to the eye's going deeper and deeper to experience all the depth and dimension.

Here is the Be Jolly stamp set we are using…

And here are the embossing folders – I consider the Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder to be one of my “LBD” – Little Black Dress – folders because I don't know of a single theme or style of handmade card on which this couldn't be a beautiful addition.
