I love making handmade die cut cards because dies these days do so much of the intricate work for us. I LOVE the way this card came out and even thought I planned to do some more to it, I stopped here because it's so gorgeous. Check it out:
Between the beautiful navy and white patterns of the Floral Boutique Designer Series Paper and Floral Boutique Washi Tape (BOTH retiring!) and the intricate details of the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits Dies, there's a TON of textural interest on this card, which is relatively flat! Here's another peek:
See how it's not popped up with any dimensional adhesive but when you look at it straight on you get the sense of depth?
This is due to the layers of patterns from the paper and the details in the wings of the dragonflies. Cutting them out and then setting back into the space gives you a subtle outline and that lovely peek-through effect. You can do this with lots of different shapes when you are making handmade die cut cards.
TIP: Double your tag on your cards with a solid color behind your sentiment layer to really help it pop. This is one of my favorite tag designs evah! The tag is from the Cutie Pies Thinlits Dies which is also retiring. I LOVE this set not for the main feature – the slice o' pie or cake – but the SUPER cute little doo-dads that come with it. I mean, check out that adorable paper bow! And the little candle? And those tags – I LOVE 'em! And yes, I have bought Thinlits sets NOT for the main attraction but for the cool stuff that comes with it! Anyway, here's a peek at the tag detail:
See how cute that is with the little navy shape behind it? It keeps the tag from getting lost and using the solid panel instead of another peek-a-boo cutout makes it really stand out.
