Handmade Butterfly Card
Today we are making a handmade butterfly card that is bright, cheery, and loads of texture!
I used supplies I haven't used in a while, and that feels great, doesn't it? I had an embossing folder that I had “in a safe place” – AKA missing in the mess – that I have been wanting to use. It's one that's splatters!
Fun story, when I was in high school, I had a vision to splatter paint my bedroom. My mom said as long as the colors were pastel, I could do it. I don't have any pictures of it, but it was so fun to go wild and crazy with light blues, pinks, greens, and yellows. I haven't thought about that room in a while, but now I am considering doing it again here….
Anyway, great fun memories!
This embossing folder is much faster and way less messy, lol!
I grabbed the Best Butterflies bundle since I have only used it once and then I got stuck. Super stuck.
There is a fun sentiment in there that I wanted to use, but I needed a die for it. I tried the Stitched Rectangles dies, I tried punches, it was just this odd shape and I thought surely I had to have something that would work, but nothing did.
Before I dive into the solution, let me share that fun bundle with you:
So digging around, I came across a set of dies I hadn't opened yet from the Holiday catalog. And there it was, imagine this bright beam of light shooting out of the die envelope as the clouds part and the bird of happiness lands on your shoulder. It was there, just there in that set!
In total perfection, in that beautiful paper crafting moment when things just come together – there was the perfect size stitched shape. You can't tell from the catalog how awesome the dies are in the Celebrate With Tags set. It comes in a bundle, I didn't use the stamp set for this card, but wanted to share them both with you.
Here's a great tip for you – spend a few minutes in my online store with Stampin' Up! looking at the dies. They can be seen in much better detail that way. You will get better size ideas in the catalogs, but the detail is much better online.
After all that, I just realized I haven't shared the card with you – and it's too cute not to!
The Project
I went with a fun color palette, mixing in some two different In Colors from different releases, Polished Pink, Parakeet Party, and Daffodil Delight. It's such a bright and fun color combo.
A little stamping for the butterfly wings and the sentiment.
Then the rest is dry embossing with die cutting – and adding in little strips of Parakeet Party patterned paper, and your card is almost done.
All that's left is assembly and adding some rhinestones to finish.
Super cute, right?!?!?
I love how it came together. It's rare that something I picture in my head finishes the way it started, I usually make a lot of changes as I go. But this one I was able to stick with.
