Why OLO Markers Made Me Actually Enjoy Coloring Again

I have a confession.

There was a time when coloring felt… intimidating.

Not relaxing.
Not fun.
Not “grab a cup of coffee and unwind” energy.

More like:

“Why does my project suddenly look like I colored it while driving over railroad tracks?” 😅

And honestly? A huge part of that came down to the markers themselves.

Once I switched to OLO Markers, everything changed.

The blending became smoother.
The colors layered more naturally.
And most importantly… coloring stopped feeling stressful.

I’ve been using OLO Markers exclusively for over two years now, and they’ve completely become part of my normal cardmaking process. Not because I’m trying to create complicated coloring masterpieces, but because they make simple coloring feel EASY.

And this card is the perfect example of that.

The Secret Isn’t Fancy Coloring

When most people think about alcohol marker coloring, they imagine elaborate shading and advanced techniques that require seventeen color combinations and a small emotional support team 😂

But honestly?

Most of the time, beautiful coloring comes down to:

  • smooth blending, while leaving contrast
  • easy ink flow
  • colors that work together naturally
  • and markers that don’t fight you

That’s exactly why I love OLO.

For this cocktail glass, I kept the coloring simple:

  • bright pink drink
  • soft shading
  • vibrant strawberry
  • cheerful little umbrella accents

Nothing overly technical.

But because the markers blend so effortlessly, the final result still looks polished and vibrant.

Which is basically the crafty version of looking put together while secretly wearing stretchy pants.

Let the Coloring Be the Star

One of my favorite ways to make coloring stand out is pairing it with a very clean card design.

The white background on this card gives the colored image room to breathe, which naturally pulls your eye right toward the focal point.

I also used the Rectangle Combo #5 OPC die from Brass & Bliss Craft Co. to create that detailed frame around the image.

And honestly? It’s one of those dies that quietly makes everything look more finished with almost no extra effort.

Final Thoughts

I think sometimes we assume we’re “bad” at coloring…

…when really we’ve just been using tools that make the process harder than it needs to be.

Good markers don’t magically turn us into professional illustrators overnight.

But they do make coloring smoother, easier, and a whole lot more enjoyable.

And honestly? That little shift changes everything 🍹✨

XOXO,
Meg
