DIY Card Making: How to Make a Halloween Card
It is a dark and dreary day today in our part of Texas – which means it is the perfect weather for making Halloween cards! I am totally in a Halloween mood today – everything is just pointing that way. First with the weather, then a spider crawled across my foot as I was walking Emily to school today, I was craving hot apple cider, and I am even wearing my favorite costume – today I look like a stamper! I am covered in ink like you would not believe, and I am pretty sure that I am sparkly from glitter.
Let me share with you how this Halloween card came to be:
First – Color Combination. It was pretty easy to pick out a color palette since it was Halloween, and since I had Stampin's Up!‘s Witches Brew patterned paper. I went with Basic Black, Basic Gray and Pumpkin Pie.
Next – Stamps. I have had the Halloween Bash stamp set from Stampin' Up! sitting on my counter begging to be used. And I went with the huge sentiment on it. Pumpkin Pie ink on Whisper White card stock.
Then – Layout. This is where it got a little hinky. It started with a Pumpkin Pie card base, but then the Pumpkin Pie didn't pop, especially the little Basic Gray pennants at the bottom. That is how Whisper White became the base. I then knew that I needed ‘something' under the sentiment layers to stand up off of the Pumpkin Pie. That is how the Basic Gray made it's appearance. Then I added a bit of texture to both Pumpkin Pie and Basic Gray.
Finally – Accessorizing! Normally I would never use a bow on a Halloween card. They are supposed to be spooky and bows are cute. But without it, it just looked ‘meh'. (say that word out loud and you will get it) Nothing to write home about. Just ‘meh'….
And rhinestones on a Halloween card? I know – this somehow became a little more girly than I had planned. But I love the way it turned out.
For the inside, simple was the way to go. I mimicked the cross stitch embossing folder from the front to the inside and this card goes into the Done Pile!
I hope that you can forgive the girly in it, and maybe even embrace it. Let me know what you think – use the heck out of my comments section and leave me one!
DIY card making is something I so enjoy – what could be better than looking out the window at the dreary weather, and making a Halloween card?
