DIY Card Making:  Halloween Bash from Stampin' Up!

When I woke up this morning, I was convinced that it would be all cloudy and overcast – boy was I WRONG!  But as I sat in the dark of morning with my eyes barely open, clinging to my coffee for dear life, I had that feeling that it would be dark, rainy, AKA perfect Halloween weather!  No surprise that as I looked at my list of cards that I need to make, I went straight for the Halloween one.

The elements on this card really took off on their own.  I started with Stampin' Up!'s  Halloween Bash stamp set and knew I was going to do a layer similar to what I did in my Advanced Card Class Halloween card (the card & video tutorial is posted in Stamping Family) but then take it in a different direction.  And I really wanted to use my Witches Brew Washi Tape too, but different from that card as well.

I started with my square of Very Vanilla, it is 3-1/2″ x 3-1/2″, so not that big, but this morning it felt like a HUGE blank canvas.  On went the Witches Brew Washi Tape from Stampin' Up! across the top and bottom of the square.  Then came the chevron pattern Washi Tape, but it needed to pop more.  So I layered it onto extra Very Vanilla.  It popped more…. but not enough.  Then I put Basic Black behind that.

I went bebopping along, did my faux stitching using my Chalk Marker (my fave new accessory – goodbye gel pens!!!) around the card.  Applied the Basic Black big layer, put on my Very Vanilla square and my layered chevron was now lost.  So I sat there and stared.  Went and got more coffee, and stared.  Drank more coffee, and it hit me, I just needed to add another Very Vanilla layer behind it.  Now it pops!

A few finishing touches with the bow and the rhinestones and I have a Halloween Bash card that I am happy with!

When it comes to DIY Card Making – just go with it.  Go with the design.  Go with what your head is telling you.  There aren't any mistakes when it comes to card making.  The worst thing that will happen is that you might ruin a bit of card stock – it isn't gold, it isn't platinum, it is only card stock!  Have fun, you never know what you will end up creating!  Often my end result is not at all what I started creating.

I hope that you enjoyed this DIY Card Making idea using the Halloween Bash stamp set from Stampin' Up!
