DIY Card Making:  My Valentine's Day Card

This year, I wanted to give my sweetie a card that didn't just say “Happy Valentine's Day“.  I wanted it to say more of what I feel about him and not just the standard line.

And it also needed to have something that is *me* – which is where the polka dots come in.   So let's break it down and get down to how to make it.

The card base is Whisper White and is 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″.

On top of that is a piece of Real Red that is 3-1/2″ x 4-3/4”.  But tucked behind the corners is a piece of Crumb Cake (1″ x 1″) that I cut on an angle and tucked behind as a photo corner.

The next layer on top is a piece of Crumb Cake that I dry embossed with the Stripes Embossing Folder (2-3/4″x 4″).

The patterned paper was kind of an fluke.  I had the red with white polka dots from the Polka Dot Parade.  Then the white with red polka dots is from the tags from the old Christmas catalog I still have lying around.  My original plan, in case you don't have the tags, was to stamp a piece of white card stock with a red polka dot stamp – same effect, different way.  Those made the pennants.

The sentiment and hearts are from an older, retired stamp set, you can use anything you have, or just layer a red circle onto your big white circle.

I hope that you are spending the day with either the people you love most or the memories you treasure of your loved ones.  Both are equally special!

There is one more card that we will be doing in this series, but it is more based on love and not just Valentines day.  But since we are on a roll with the love theme, let's keep it going one more day!  So maybe I should change this from the DIY Card Making Valentine's Day series to the love series!
