Bring On The Presents – Retiring Items
There are many items retiring from the Stampin Up Holiday Catalog that I really hope you order before they are officially sold out or retire – Bring on the Presents is one of them.
Over the next week, I will be highlighting my favorites that I am sad to see go, so be sure to keep checking back.
Many of my favorites are favorites because they are so versatile.
While most might think that this is a Christmas stamp set, of the 12 images in this set, only two are actually Christmas. So put your finger over those to stamps below and then look at what is left.
What I see is endless options for celebratory types of cards and crafts. What came to mind was a birthday card.
So let's make one!
Our Color Combination
I love Pool Party and I love it even more when it's mixed with silver. Maybe it's because Emily just decorated a tree for her room with light blue and silver, but it's a color combination that works any time of the year. Add in some Whisper White and you have a stunning combination.
Dimensions
To make this card, you will want to start with the following dimensions:
Whisper White: 4-1/4″ x 11″; 3-3/4″ x 5-1/4″
Pool Party: 3-1/4″ x 2-1/2″
Silver Glimmer Paper: 4″ x 5-1/4″
Cutting Down the Glimmer Paper
If you want to create a couple layers of Glimmer Paper but want to use it sparingly, you will want to make frames.
To do that, use your Paper Trimmer and line up your Glimmer Paper at the 1/2″ mark on the left side of your cut line.
Cut from 1/2″ from the top to 1/2″ from the bottom. Do this on all four sides.
If you want to to repeat this as I did, follow the exact same steps. This will give you two frames and a leftover rectangle for another project.
Stamping
The only stamping done on this card was the stamping of the multi-bow image. This stamp is perfect for coloring with your Stampin' Blends as you will be able to give depth to your bow, but it's not mandatory. You can color this in with regular markers too. If you are using Stampin' Blends, be sure to stamp in Tuxedo Black ink, as Stampin' Blends were formulated to work with that ink pad.
Big Shot Items
Now is the time to do your Big Shot items. You will want to die cut your bow. Also die cut your Happy Birthday sentiment in Pool Party card stock.
Then you will also want to dry emboss a piece of Whisper White using the fabulous Corrugated Embossing Folder.
Before you dive into that, let's chat about two things you need to know with this folder.
It's a deep impression folder, very deep. When your card stock runs through your Big Shot with this folder, it will shrink in length. So you will want to cut your card stock a bit longer than you want your finished size to be. I wanted this to finish at 3-3/4″ x 5″, so I started this piece at 3-3/4″ x 5-1/4″.
Secondly, Whisper White card stock is thinner than our colored card stock. Be sure to generously spray it with rubbing alcohol first to avoid cracking your card stock.
Assembling
All that is needed now is to go nuts with your adhesive and attach this all together. The only specialty adhesive I used was Dimensionals behind the bow to help it stand up off the card, but also it's my favorite adhesive to go on top of Glimmer Paper.
My second favorite adhesive to use on top of Glimmer Paper is Glue Dots – and that is what is behind the Happy Birthday die cut.
Look at that depth with the Stampin' Blends:
And the Corrugated Embossing Folder isn't just for the farmhouse look:
