A Peek-Through Bird Card
I was experimenting with window cards and came up with this cute bird card where you peek through a window to see your focal image . What's nice about these style of cards is that you can add some additional dimension and details on the top panel which adds a ton of visual interest for very very little extra work. You all know how I love easy peasy and super adorbs!
Let's look:
And trust me when I say this was a super fast card to make with one small exception – we'll get to that.
First, I started with the window; I cut one of the Stitched Nested Labels in the center of a panel cut slightly smaller than my card base. Then I placed the panel on the card and marked the ends of the window very lightly with a pencil to help me know where to stamp my birds. I stamped them with Tuxedo Black and when it was dry – just a bit – I erased the pencil marks.
While I was waiting for the birds to dry, I stamped some of the flowers and buds on scraps. I also stamped my sentiment in the center of the peek-through panel.
Then I got to coloring. Due to the sketch style of this stamp, I wanted my coloring to be slightly “haphazard”, more like a continuation of the sketch style of the stamp. I used Smoky Slate, Balmy Blue and Misty Moonlight on the birds, Soft Sea Foam and Garden Green on the leaves, Early Espresso for the branch and Calypso Coral and Flirty Flamingo on the flowers on the branch and my extras.
The Details
Now, the ONLY part of this bird card that wasn't lickety-split was fussy cutting the flowers. But I sort of like fussy cutting sometimes – it can be a little meditative and slows me down when I am in a crafting frenzy!
I adhered the peek-through panel to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals and then adhered the fussy cut flowers and buds around the opening of the window with liquid adhesive and those awesome Mini Stampin' Dimensionals.
If you love this bird card and want to make a stack of 'em, stamp a whole bunch of the flowers on your Whisper White scraps and then when you are binge watching your latest fave or on yet another Zoom get together, color and cut to your heart's content. Then these cards will come together in NO time!
Supplies
Here are the things you will need from your stash – please note that I listed ALL the markers because I used markers from all the color families. Personally, I can't live without my markers!
