Making Handmade Masculine Cards

Today we are talking about making handmade masculine cards using what some might see as more feminine stamps.  If you are like me, you don't make a lot of masculine cards, so having a lot of masculine stamps laying around collecting dust doesn't work well.  Instead, I prefer to purchase and keep on hand stamp sets that I can see working for both masculine and feminine cards.

Let's take a look at the stamp set we will be using today.  It's called Wonderful Romance and it is from the 2019 Occasions catalog with Stampin Up.  Oddly enough, when I first saw it, the masculine card we will be going over is what came to mind.

At first glance, it really looks like more of a set you would use for weddings, anniversaries, cards for friends.  But what I first saw was the leaves.

So we are going to take a leaf image, add a sentiment from the set and tie in metallic accents to finish out our card, of course with some other things added as well.

The Project

Here is what we will be making today.  And this is also an easy one to make a lot of if you need a lot of handmade masculine cards.

The Dimensions

  • Crumb Cake:  4-1/4″ x 11″; 2-1/4″ x 2-1/4″
  • Old Olive:  4″ x 5-1/4″
  • Whisper White:  1/2″ x 4″; 2″ x 2″

Step-By-Step Process

  1. Stamp your leaves in Old Olive ink all over Old Olive card stock.
  2. Dry emboss your Old Olive card stock using the Subtle embossing folder.  After that, secure onto your Crumb Cake card base.
  3. Attach Whisper White strip across Old Olive.
  4. Punch out a piece of Crumb Cake card stock using the Starburst Punch.
  5. Secure Copper Thread behind Starburst Punch and attach to your card front.
  6. Stamp sentiment in Old Olive ink onto Whisper White.  Punch out with 1-1/2″ Circle Punch and attach to your card using Dimensionals.
  7. Punch a hole in heart accent and place a copper brad as shown.
  8. Finish your card by adding the heart accent!

Why It Works

Metallic accents on their own don't make a card masculine or feminine – it's what you pair with it.  The metallic accents are kinda like a little black dress if you will.  You can dress it up or dress it down – or in this case, make it more for guys or for ladies.  Since we paired it with a more masculine color combo and the jagged lines from the Starburst punch, the accents will add more of a masculine touch to the card.

Now it's your turn to make this card.  To get started, you will need your supplies.  They are all listed below.  To order any of these, simply click on a picture.  Don't forget that it's Sale-a-Bration time, which means that every order over $50 earns you a free SAB selected item.   You can see them all here.
