Today I am sharing a peek at where my inspirations come from and how it translates into simple greeting card making for anyone. You see, today was a rainy day. The weather was gloomy and blah but I was feeling creative. I don't wanna think, I don't want to smurf myself in blue ink or stick myself to myself with all kinds of adhesive. I just want to make stuff. So I just put on my favorite music and started to simply create.
Here's the card I made but see below for some important information about the paper:
From each sheet of 12×12 paper, I can get 6 card front panels, so in this case, I needed three pieces of Very Vanilla cut down. I take my sheet of card stock, score once down the center, and then cut once to get my two card fronts.
NOTE: Now this particular paper, the Falling In Love Designer series paper, sold out within hours of being placed on the retiring list. Even though every year ALL the patterned paper is retired for some reason people went bonkers over this paper and it was gone in a snap. BUT, one thing people may not realize about the designs of the Designer Series Paper is that the patterns are all carefully scaled so nearly all card and scrapbook page designs can work interchangeably – with all the patterns. With the exception of stripes and other “directional” patterns, you can adapt any card design to any other paper simply by changing out colors and type of embellishment. Cool, huh?
So with this specific pattern, I cut down two sheets. This pattern is more clustered at the bottom and more open space at the top of the sheet. The card I am showing here uses the bottom pieces of the paper and later I will show you a different card using the TOP pieces. So when you are shopping YOUR stash you can look for those papers where the pattern changes as it moves up and down or side to side and adjust your cards the same way.
I grabbed a coordinating ribbon and I chose this one because I didn't want anything to compete with that stunning paper. Again, when you shop your stash, choose embellishments that complement, don't compete, with your patterned paper. Here's another look:

Do you LOVE those sentiments? I can't believe such great words are so unceremoniously tucked into this stamp set! Pick some words you love and tThen just shop your stash for a shape and die cut around the greeting, pop it up on some Stampin' Dimensionals and you are done! Here's a peek at that:
When you hear me say “shop your stash” I mean look through all your goodies and grab something that inspires you – a color, a shape, a pattern and then look through your goodies again for something that can work with it without having any preconceived ideas in your head. Like this paper, for example – it's sold out but you can flip through all YOUR sheets of glorious patterned paper and find something that speaks to you. Then just add the components and – voila – you are flexing your simple greeting card making muscles!
