I've been asked several times if there is a OLO Markers Stampin' Up Color Match for a comparison and I sat down and did it!
Now, this is a very basic comparison that I created for myself months ago, there is nothing fancy to it, but I am happy to share it.
Not every color is a perfect match, but other than one color that I just couldn't get spot on, but these are pretty gosh darn close.
I started by stamping an image with a Stampin' Up! ink pad and then scribbling next to it in the OLO Marker color I think is closest.
I have been using those OLO markers ever since and I still can't tell a color difference, except for one color. And to get that color, you just blend two colors together.

Pretty spot on, right? The one that I am not 100% on is Crushed Curry, but simple blending with some O's, and that fixes that!
Why Did I Switch to OLO's?
Several reasons, so here we go….
- I never, ever liked ordering Stampin' Blends in a 2 pack. One always dries out faster and then you have to buy both again or stop using them – which is what I did – and I kinda stopped coloring because of it.
- Twice as much ink for WAY less money. Uh yeah, that got my attention really fast! You can read all about on their website here. AND you use more of the ink, less waste.
- Money! WAY more affordable. $3.39 – $4.10 depending on the nib you order. Seriously, that's just insane!
- REFILLS!!!! Plus they are EASY refills! Take off the cap, pull out the nib, open the refill, put the nib in the refill and put the cap back on. A refill is a grand old price of $2.69. Yep, you read that right!
- Beautiful colors! Currently160 colors, so plenty of blending opportunities.
- Fantastic company! I ❤️ them so much! They are all about the artists, and I love that.
- Cheaper than Copic and you don't have to mess with their messy refill process.
Bottom line, you buy exactly what you need and nothing else. It's beautiful.
First Tip
OKAY – here me on this! When you go to order, whether you order one of my color collections, their collections, or buy them individually, make sure to order a Zero and a K (Pure Black). The Zero is the colorless blender and we always need a black.
Second Tip
Go to their accessories section before you check out. Get either a Sketchbook or X-Press it card stock. If you are using Basic White from SU, keep in mind that Stampin' Blends were formulated for Basic White only! I have both the sketchbook for trying things and I use X-Press it on my cards.
You WON'T need to buy connector rings, they will give you one for every two half markers you buy.
Third Tip
Enjoy them! Love on them, and they will love you back. I fell in love on day one of using them. BUT, I was looking for a different marker when I found their company at a trade show. I was walking around with all kinds of marker vendors with the intention of finding something different. Every marker works differently, so be open to that when you get them. Don't compare, just use them and you will figure out how they work.
Fourth Tip
ASK MY QUESTIONS! If you struggle with any of it, reach out!
That's It!
Using my aff link costs you no more, and I get paid a little bit and it helps me strengthen my relationship with this company.

Happy Shopping!
XOXO, Meg
Thank you so much for the chart! I ordered one of your sets And love how they color. Now to go shopping for more :0)
Thank you for sharing the chart!
You are most welcome!
Hi –
Do these need to be ordered in a set or can colors be ordered individually?
You can get them in sets or individually!
Just found you and can’t tell you how delighted I am! i love the 40 OLO brushes I have, but struggled to match them to the SU colors I have. i use all SU cardstock and ink, so I’m a matchy matchy person. Amazingly enough, I picked 14 the same as you. That being said, I was also trying to match some of my choices with retired colors. Wish you would extend your color match to those, as i would buy them. I’m am planning my next purchase through you—anything I can do to thank you for what you have done! Please let me know if you would ever consider doing a match with the retired SU colors
Hi Jeanne! YAY, I am so glad this has helped! I don’t have any of the other ink pad colors BUT… if you are willing to stamp me images, like how I did the swatch above, and mail them to me, I am more than happy to help!
Great, I just might do that. I tried clicking on the “Order OLO Here” button above, but nothing happens. Please explain to me how I can order through you so you get some benefit.
Hi! Gotta love technology! I *think* it works now, but just in case, here it is: https://iteachstamping.com/olo. Thank you!!!!
That works! However, how do I insure you get the credit. I don’t see your name anywhere, just Asia Ladowska’s name on a marker set. I’m really technology challenged, so non of this is easy. Does giving you credit come near the end of the order or is there something I should do right from the start. thank you for your help with this.
I am more concerned with brushes matching the cardstock, so I have made swatches of cardstock and matched the markers I have with some of the cardstock. The colors on line do not come close in some instances, so I’m not sure where to start. For instance, BG 7.6 looks the same as the retired Soft Succulent on line, which I purchased it for. However it is way more blue than green and matches retired Buckeroo Blue. And BG 7.6 was your suggestion for Misty Moonlight, but it is way more green and goes with retired Blue Bayou. So, now I can’t figure out what to get to match with Misty Moonlight and Soft Succulent. I was prepared to mail you my swatch cart of cardstock, but am totally confused. Most likely it is the difference between real and digital. Luckily, the brushes are not terribly expensive, so even if I can’t find a match I can give them away, as I will do with two that I purchased but can’t find cardstock to go with. Still waiting to find out how to make sure you get the credit for my order.
Hi Jeanne! I posted the link below, but will add it here: here it is: https://iteachstamping.com/olo you can also put “meg” in the comments if you aren’t sure that the link stayed with me.
As for card stock, that’s a booger of a situation as all companies have “allowances” of tolerable differences, whether from different dye lots or from different manufactures (SU used to have two manufactures for their card stock, I am not sure if they still do), but each package can differ. My biggest frustration was Old Olive with them, I never had two packages that looked the same unless I ordered at the same time. It was always funny to compare card stock swatches with my friends’ card stock swatches – they were never the same!
That is why I matched to inks and not to card stock when I did it. The dye lots are just consistently inconsistent. The inks are normally pretty steady amongst dye lots. When it comes to matching digitally, I don’t do that, as that’s a whole other ball of wax, lol! So I stamped each color for my comparison and matched ink to ink.
As for them not matching perfectly, I would still keep them for shading/blending and you never know which new colors will be introduced!
Thanks for the informative message. I have another list of possible matches that I’m going to order soon, and this time I will follow your tip for giving you credit. My hubby told me to just order all of them I don’t have, but I think I will start with my list as I know there are some I won’t be able to match and some of my favorites that are not available from OLO (yet!)—the blue greens like Soft Succulent and Sage Shadow (which are retired), and even Lost Lagoon and Misty Moonlight, which are core colors, but I can’t get colors to work with my cardstock. I did find where the suggested colors will work for me, however. Anyway, I truly love using the markers and am pleased with the results. Thank you for your help and suggestions. I’m hoping OLO will come out with more colors and up date their color swatch pages to reflect the current 160 colors, (Especially the blank color family grouping one)
