Today I have a fun masculine birthday card idea to share with you. I used one stencil, one die, one ink pad, and one embellishment – yet it comes together so well!

The goal of this card was to use a new-to-me ink pad color with a stamp I haven't used yet either. I LOVE making cards like this.

If you have a goal to make more cards this year and to use supplies you have on hand, start by pulling 2-3 items you haven't used in a while or never at all. Then think of the type of card you want to make.

For me, this was going to be a birthday card, but this same sentiment would also work well for a New Year card.

I decided to use a sun ray stencil and a blending brush. The actual sun ray stencil is currently out of stock but I added a similar one to the list

When using a stencil like that, you can either start with a putting down a base coat of ink then layering your stencil on top and then blend more ink with your stencil to get the deeper tones.

The other way is my favorite. You start with the stencil then you use your blending brush with your ink pad. Then you remove your stencil and use the ink that remains on your brush to add the lighter color. To me, I think you use less ink this way. I can't be sure, but I feel like I do so I go with it.

For my ink color, I went with Fiesta Blue.

Add your fabulous sentiment in the same color ink and die cut it out with a fun die cut.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this die cut! It's called This Way Round from Catherine Pooler. It's a set of 6, but I choose to look at mine like a set of 3. With her dies, you cut them apart. And since I have a set of circle dies, I really need the decorative edging.

If I cut it into 6 pieces rather than 3 sets of circles, then every time i use it, I'd have to line up the dies and make sure the decorative edging piece stays in the middle. By just keeping the decorative piece attached to the circle die, and keeping it a “set of 3” then I never have to line anything up, which makes my life easier and crafting easier, and therefore I am more likely to use it.

If you are at all like me, if something is too involved, I probably won't use it enough to get my money's worth out of it. So I always look for ways to keep it easy ensuring that I will use it.

A few decorative accent dots around the edges and this card is ready to be sent!
