Today's post is all about Barbie Drama – not stamping!  My daughter found out a while back that there was a new Barbie movie coming out and has been stalking the Sunday paper ever since.  Then today, there is was, the new Barbie movie – and me being the movie lover that I am, knows that most movies release on Tuesday.  But the ad did not say Tuesday.  Off we went, early this morning, more excited that on Christmas morning….  If you have never seen a Barbie fan going on a Barbie shopping trip, it is quite the site.  She dressed in her best Barbie wear, changed earrings, put on her bling shoes, her super cute purse with her hard earned money she has been saving up for this, and off we went.

We couldn't find the movie, and someone who works there went to the back to get it.  We get to the register and BAM!  The store is not allowed to sell it until Tuesday – this is the start of Barbie drama.  You would have thought it started with seeing it in the paper – that was just warm up drama.  Emily had her Sunday flyer in her hand and showed the lady where it said it was available and there was a free giveaway with it.  Then Emily showed her where the Tuesday releases were listed and the Barbie movie was not listed in that section.

Of course, federal law being what it is, they are not allowed to sell it early, and I understand that, but the six year old Barbie fan did not.  Insert tears.  And extreme sadness.  And then she asked the lady about what would happen if they ran out of all the extra giveaways before she could buy it, and the lady said that there was nothing they could do about that.  Insert more tears and more extreme sadness.

Emily looked at me with those weepy eyes and asked what in the world we could do about this.  And we thought and we thought.  We asked about rain checks, not available.  We asked about them holding one since it was a misprint, nope.  Then it hit me, I paid for the giveaway, will hang onto my receipt, return it on Tuesday, buy the movie, get the giveaway (which is a mini Barbie) for free and hope that all is then right with the world.

We get in the car and Emily climbs over the seat, gave me a huge hug and thanked me – then started more tears, "But Mom, Tuesday is so far away!"  It is not easy being six.

I hope that your day did not include Barbie drama, but just in case you experienced the same level of Barbie drama in your home, I hope that this also gives you a solution!
