What Can You Do With Washi Tape?

I get asked a lot…. What can you do with washi tape?  And to be honest, I resisted USING washi tape all the time, I bought it, but never used it.  And I have learned over the years that I am not unique in that.

So if you are wondering it too, here is a great tip for you.

Use it as a layer instead of patterned paper!

Let's take a look at my favorite washi tape right now.  (and yes, it could change tomorrow!) This is my fave right now because it is shimmery and shiny, glittery and fun – and what could be better than that!?!?!  ESPECIALLY if you like the look of glitter but don't use it a lot because you don't like the mess 🙂

Everyone needs this one, it's just a given!  No craft room should be without this fab washi tape.  And if you are wondering what the blue color one is in there, it is Dapper Denim.

Today we will be using the silvery stars glitter one 🙂

The Layout

This layout is actually a sneak peek of an upcoming Stamping Family inspiration.  Each week in Stamping Family, there is a new color inspiration and sketch inspiration – all fun ones too!

This sketch as so many things you can do with it and I am going to go for a mixture of patterned paper as well as using my washi tape to create a layer.  Outside of the 3″ x 4″ paper is where I put my washi – and there is more on that below.

For the paper, I am bringing in the wondermous Bubbles & Fizz Sale-a-Bration paper.

The Stamping

For this sketch, I needed a short and wide sentiment.  And since I am using the Bubbles & Fizz, I kinda had birthday on the brain.

Off I went on the hunt to find a sentiment that was short, wide and somewhat of a birthday nature.  I also try to pick out stamps that have been a little neglected in recent months.  And that led me to the Confetti Celebration stamp set.  I chose the sentiment of ‘let's celebrate' because it checked off the 1) short 2) wide 3) celebratory in nature boxes.

This set is so versatile, the Hooray fits into circle dies.  The Yay fits into star dies.  And if you like Stampin' Blends, check out that outline stamp Happy Birthday – lots of creative ideas all in one stamp set!

The Assembly

Wondering how I made it?  Here is the easy short cut to making this.

Start with your Whisper White piece that is 4″ x 5-1/4″.  Add your yellow patterned paper flush to the bottom right hand corner.   Then build up – add the diagonal striped paper next, and then the blue stripey paper.  Next comes your sentiment layer.

THEN add your washi tape around your yellow paper.  The washi I used is 1/2″ wide, so keep that in mind when going past your yellow.

Then tie your pretty bow in your stunning shimmer ribbon – smack it onto a glue dot and place it where you want on your card.

Then choose your card base, I went with Lemon Lime Twist because that was the ink color used – and it makes for a more cohesive look on your card.

Stand back and enjoy your TADA moment!

The Ribbon Choice

I wanted a shimmer ribbon to finish off this card, but didn't want to just add silver – I felt that silver ribbon would actually detract from the washi tape.  Instead, I pulled in the Sale-a-Bration Shimmer Ribbon pack.  I chose the Basic Gray color from the stripe that is on the diagonal patterned paper.
