Sometimes I think cardmakers accidentally convince themselves that every card needs:
- twelve layers
- advanced techniques
- seventeen embellishments
- and at least one minor crafting identity crisis 😂
But honestly?
Some of the happiest cards come from keeping things simple.
This card came together using products from the new Better with Sprinkles Collection from Catherine Pooler Designs, and it’s the perfect reminder that a few playful products and bright colors can do a LOT of the heavy lifting for you.
And honestly… this card just makes me happy 🍨✨
Let’s Talk About That New Boardwalk Ink 👀
The blue on this card is the brand new Boardwalk ink color, and I’m officially obsessed.
It has that bright summery feel without becoming overpowering, which makes it perfect for:
- summer cards
- beach themes
- playful sentiments
- and clean-and-simple designs
I used Boardwalk to stamp the outline of the sundae glasses onto vellum, which helped keep the images soft and airy while still adding color and definition.
And paired with Gateway pink and Garden Party green?
Chef’s kiss. Craft room approved.
The Background Looks Fancy… But Isn’t 😎
One of my favorite things about this card is that the background looks layered and detailed without actually being difficult.

I used the new Check This Layered Stencils and only used two of the three stencil layers.
That’s one of my favorite stencil tricks:
You do NOT always have to use every layer.
For this card:
- the first stencil layer was blended with Gateway ink
- the second layer used the same color, just applied darker
That little bit of tone-on-tone layering creates depth without making the background compete with the focal images.
Translation:
The stencil quietly understood the assignment 🎯
Why This Style of Card Works So Well
Clean-and-simple cards are often easier for cardmakers to recreate because they don’t feel overwhelming.
And honestly, that matters.
A lot of people stop making cards because they think they need:
- more supplies
- more techniques
- more time
- more perfection
But really?
Sometimes all you need is:
- one cute stamp set
- a few great ink colors
- and a layout that gives your focal images room to shine
That’s exactly what this card does.

Final Thoughts
I really hope cards like this encourage people to actually USE their supplies.
Not save them.
Not overthink them.
Not wait for the “perfect” idea.
Just sit down, make something fun, and enjoy the process 💛
Because honestly?
The world could probably use more handmade cards… and more ice cream too 🍒✨
XOXO,
Meg
