There’s something about a simple card that just works… and this one came together so easily.

Today’s card features the Best Fishes stamp set and coordinating dies from the Ocean Wonders release with Catherine Pooler Designs. If you love clean, playful designs with just the right amount of detail, this set is such a fun one to work with 🐠

To create the soft background, I used the new Print and Pattern accessory with the Stencil & Stamp Tool from Sizzix to add subtle circles behind the focal point. It gives the card a little movement without stealing the spotlight.

✂️ Easy Card Layout Using a Sketch

This card design is based on a simple card sketch layout, which makes it incredibly easy to recreate with supplies you already have.

If you’ve ever sat down to craft and thought, “I don’t even know where to start,” sketches are the fastest way out of that creative block.

This particular layout comes from my Card Sketch of the Month series. This one is from Volume 3.

And here’s what makes that program a little different…

Instead of giving you just one finished card, I take a single sketch and create four different cards by making small changes.

Same layout.
Different results.

It’s one of the easiest ways to:

  • Stretch your craft supplies
  • Try new ideas without overthinking
  • Actually use what you already own

All three volumes are still available, and the ideas are just as helpful whether you’re brand new or have been making cards for years.

💡 Try This with Your Own Supplies

Want to recreate this look?

Try swapping:

  • Fish → florals, birthday icons, or seasonal images
  • Circles → rectangles or layered die cuts
  • Bright colors → soft neutrals or monochromatic tones

Same layout… completely different vibe.

🐠 Final Thoughts

This card is proof that simple really can be stunning.

A clean layout, a few bright colors, and a playful focal point come together for a design that’s easy to make and fun to share.

Until next time!

XOXO,
Meg
