Sometimes life happens and we find ourselves making a belated birthday card. And with that “oopsie” comes a creative opportunity!

And if you find yourself in this situation, give this adorable card a try!

The first thing you want to do is get some patterned paper that has a scene to it, or a repeating pattern. You want this paper to be 3″ x 4″. Then you will cut it into (3) 1″ strips, so each piece will be 1″ x 4″. That's the magic right there.

Then after that, you just need the perfect sentiment.

Those are the two main elements that you need.

I used some adorable paper called Ma Heifers from Crafty Stamp Co and the Stephen's Barnyard Buddies stamp set. They pair together perfectly!

Intrigued to see how this comes together?

How adorable is this!?!?!

Options for Making a Belated Birthday Card

After you have those two main elements then you can build out the rest of your card. You will need to have your card base, and then if you want a layer over most of your card base, you can add it. Depending on your pattern you may want that layer or you may not.

You can also add in a layer of card stock behind those 3 strips, but again, you don't have to. Those 3 strips can go directly onto your card base.

For mine, I used a coordinating blue card stock layer that is 3-1/4″ x 4-1/8″. It's completely up to you if you want that layer.

Then trim your sentiment down to a length that is either spans across either the 3 strips or that entire panel. You sentiment stamp may be pretty wide, so that may be your determining factor.

And that's it! Fun, effective, playful, and owning the fact that you missed their birthday!
