Learn How To Do the Faux Poloroid Technique

Do you know how to do the Faux Poloroid Technique?  I did, but had never done it.  Then last week I got this email:

“I love the look of the Poloroid framelit from the ….. framelit set, but it is the only framelit in that set that I like and I just don’t want to spend that much on one framelitt.  Is there another way to get that look?”

The answer is yes!  So let me show you how.

You want to start with your Rectangle Framelits and chose the one that is right at a 3” square.  (Now of course you can use any size, but this is the size I used for this project.)  And then you want to grab your Big Shot and die cut a rectangular piece of card stock.

Mine is Wild Wasabi 3-1/4” x 4”.  Then you want to line it up as shown:

That’s all there is to the faux poloroid technique!  (Feel free to add texture to your poloroid if you want to.)

Now it is time to do our stamping.  For this card, I decided to go with an Outer Space Themed Birthday Card – and I love the Blast Off stamp set, it is just fun to use!  The background of the faux poloroid is Basic Black 3-1/8” x 3-1/8”.

If you want to recreate this card, grab some Whisper White card stock, your Crushed Curry, Smoky Slate and Wild Wasabi ink pads.

The moon was stamped on white and punched out using the 1” circle punch.  And the middle of the spaceship was punched out with the 1-1/4” circle punch.

After the focal point and the sentiment were stamped, then it was a matter of layering.  At first, I had the entire faux poloroid layers adhered to the Smoky Slate layer as you can see:

But that just wasn’t going to work.  I looked again at that moon and decided to match up the randomness of the circles with the randomness of the polka dots in the ??Delicate Dots Embossing Folder.  See what a difference it made?

For the card base, it is just Crushed Curry 4-1/4” x 11”, scored at 5-1/2”.

Then for the inside, I stamped a piece of Whisper White with the alien in Wild Wasabi and the moon at the top.  That went onto a layer of Wild Wasabi and went into our card front!

This was a fun card to make, and it really has me thinking why I don’t use this technique more often.   If you have not tried it, go for it!  The Faux Poloroid Technique is quick, easy, non-messy and a lot of fun!
