Making an Easter Card Using Stampin' Up's Watercolor Wonder Paper

Today's crafting started as goofing off and ended with a fun Easter card using Stampin' Up!'s Watercolor Wonder Paper.  It was a happy accident that this card came to be.

It started with me just wanting a pretty card with spring colors.   Something “light” and simple.  And it all started with the patterned paper.  I wanted to use the watercolor polka dots from the Watercolor Wonder paper.  According to the recommended colors from Stampin' Up, it would be Daffodil Delight and Tangerine Tango.  Well, the Tangerine was anything but tango-riffic on this card.  It was AWFUL!!!

I decided to try it with Calypso Coral and was pretty disappointed as well.  The entire project was about to wind up in my trash can when I decided to see what Crisp Cantaloupe looked like with it.  It wasn't until the entire card was put together that I decided I was happy with the colors.

So let me break it all down for you…

Let's start with this delightful picture.  First, allow me to crush on my camera a bit more.  I have had this for a year now, and I still {heart} it more than I should admit…. but look at that ribbon – doesn't it look like you could touch it?!?!?!

For this top layer, the leaves were stamped in Pistachio Pudding ink and this is the only place that the green is on the card.  After attempting to add it with the sentiment and with the layer that is where the Smoky Slate is, it was just too – the only words that come to mind is sugary sweet.  It was just too …  ya know – just too much.

Then it was time for the butterfly.  That butterfly is punched using Stampin' Up‘s Elegant Butterfly but also with that Watercolor Wonder paper.  That is how it has the lighter and darker shades of the yellow.  It's more yummy in real life.  And then I added some pearls to soften it up a bit more.

That circle layer has the Crisp Cantaloupe ruffled ribbon behind it, and then it is layered onto the lace doily.

For the sentiment layer, it was an after thought.  It was initially just the Crisp Cantaloupe strip, but then I decided that this would make a lovely Easter card, so out came the Delightful Dozen stamp set and the Easter card it came to be.

As I was putting it all together, it looked like it was just missing something.  There really wasn't a neutral with it other than white.  So it just felt a little off.  I tried all the browns before I decided on Smoky Slate – and it was softened up a bit more just by rounding the corners.

A layer of Crisp Cantaloupe on the inside completes it.  It has the soft and dainty feel that I wanted, and is now an Easter card, which wasn't the plan – but it works.

When you get to a point that you feel a card isn't going to come together, try changing up little things, like the colors first and see if that helps!  If I hadn't changed the Tangerine Tango to Crisp Cantaloupe, this would have wound up in the trash.
