Creating a Faux Frame Using the Simply Scored Tool

Have you ever wanted to create a frame on your cards, but don't want to add more card stock?  How about creating a faux frame using the Simply Scored tool?  It is easy, and made even easier with this simple tip.

Start by knowing the size of the frame you want.  Such as, for this project I wanted a 1/2″ frame in on all four sides.

I started with a piece of Whisper White card stock that is 4″ x 5-1/4″.

Then I grabbed my Simply Scored tool and one other thing… a 1/2″ wide piece of scrap card stock.  The length of this scrap doesn't matter, as long as it is at least 1″ long.

Start by putting your Whisper White panel into the upper left hand corner of your Simply Scored tool.  You will want to score at the 1/2″ mark.  But before you start scoring, grab that piece of scrap card stock.  Slide it all the way up to the top of your Simply Scored tool like this:

Start pulling down with your Simply Scored scoring tool (try saying that 3 times fast!).  Go about 2-3 inches down, then move your scrap card stock from the top of your Whisper White piece to the bottom.

Score all the way down to your scrap card stock.

Rotate your card stock 90 degrees to the right.  Now you won't need your scrap piece of card stock at the top as you will begin to score from where your first score line is:

Keep your scrap card stock at the bottom and score until you hit it.

Rotate and repeat twice more.  When you are done, you will have a perfect frame:

It should be subtle, not a bold look, here is another shot of it:

Just a perfect border all the way around.  Then you are ready to decorate your card!

I kept this card very simple:

And I admit, for this post – white isn't the best color option!

But it gets it done, right?

Ready to give it a try?  You don't need a lot of supplies to do this.  You can do it with a paper trimmer that has a scoring blade, but this way is much easier!
