Another DIY Congratulations Card Using Thinlits (Masculine Card Idea)

Do you remember my long tale yesterday about using the Thinlits – and how I didn't think I would like them?  If not, you can read it all here.

But while I was on a roll with congratulations cards, it hit me that there is a guy that I need to send a Congratulations card to, but he is not a ruffled ribbon kinda guy.  He is a neighbor of mine, and he started his own company a few months back and just got his first big contract.

So how was I going to take pinks and polka dots and go masculine?

A few months ago, I met with a rep from Momento and he was awesome and gave me Cut & Emboss die set – and I thought it would be perfect to use for this card.

To begin this card, you have to know a little about him.  He is an Texas A&M Aggie, he bleeds maroon.  And I am not.  I went to Texas Tech – Go Red Raiders! – and bleed red and black.  And that is how the color palette came to be.

Now, the best part of that is, he probably won't connect why I chose red and black, so it is my sneaky way of inserting Tech into his life.  And he won't read this, so all is good.

He and I have a great friendship that is based on joking and laughing, so my devious plan fits right in.

Now that you know a bit about him, let's get back to the card.  I started embossing and die cutting the stars.  I went with Silver Foil paper from Stampin' Up!, used my magnetic platform and got these stars cut out:

Then I used the Thinlit Congrats die with Real Red card stock to get my sentiment.

Basic Black card stock was used for my base and layered a piece of Real Red on top.  Did it actually need that layer, no – it could have gone without, but it just puts a little more red into his world.  (hehehe)

And then I used the retired First Edition patterned paper from Stampin' Up! to put it all together.  This card maybe took me 5 minutes.  Literally.  It was so simple.  Die cut the words and the stars.  Cut the card stock, layer it together – done!

He will proudly display it in his office knowing him, right under his A&M flag, never knowing that while I am very excited for his big contract, this card accomplished two things!

Can you think of someone that you need to send a card to, but could sneak in something fun at the same time?  I hope so, because when you make you own cards, you can do exactly that!  I hope that you enjoyed this masculine card idea using Thinlits and stars for this congratulations card.
